Hotel Monte44 is a family-run 3-star hotel in Selva di Val Gardena with a knack for keeping things simple and comfortable. Just 450 metres from the village centre and with a ski bus stop practically on the doorstep, it is an easy, fuss-free base for exploring the vast Dolomiti Superski area. The 12 rooms are cosy and well kept, many with balconies looking out over the valley, and there is a warmth to the place that makes it easy to settle in from the moment you arrive.
Breakfasts here are a highlight, with a generous spread of locally sourced ingredients served until 10.30am — good news if the après went on a little longer than planned. Gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options are all covered. Come the afternoon, coffee and homemade cakes appear on the sun terrace, and in the evening a small menu of traditional South Tyrolean dishes rounds things off nicely.
When the legs need a break, the hotel's wellness area delivers. A sauna, steam bath and outdoor whirlpool are all there to take the edge off a big day on the mountain, with a quiet relaxation area for anyone who just wants to put their feet up. From Selva you have direct access to the Sellaronda, one of the great ski circuits of the Alps, and the wider Dolomiti Superski network offers slopes to suit every level. A ski room, boot dryers and a skipass service mean one less thing to think about each morning.
