Hotel Digon

The Hotel Digon is one of those places that guests keep coming back to, and it is easy to see why. Set in a quiet, elevated position above Ortisei with panoramic views across Val Gardena to the surrounding Dolomite peaks, this 4-star superior hotel has been run by the Stuflesser family for over 40 years and was recently renovated to a very high standard. The location is peaceful without being isolated. A free bus stops directly outside the hotel and runs regularly into Ortisei village centre and across the valley, putting the ski lifts, shops and restaurants within easy reach. From there you have the full Dolomiti Superski network at your feet, including 1,246km of pistes and the legendary Sella Ronda circuit.

Rooms are finished in natural wood and Swiss pine, and the effect is warm, contemporary and distinctly alpine. The top-floor Majestic rooms are worth the upgrade if you can stretch to it, with 30sqm of space, elegant wooden floors and unobstructed balcony views across the valley that you will not get tired of. Even the standard rooms are well proportioned and comfortable, and all come with satellite TV, safe, free Wi-Fi and a balcony or terrace.

The food is a genuine highlight. Dinner is a refined set menu rooted in South Tyrolean and Trentino tradition with some international touches, using local and seasonal ingredients, many sourced from the family's own farm. A sommelier is on hand to pair each course with something from a well-curated wine list, and the whole experience is a proper sit-down affair without being stuffy. Breakfast is equally generous, with homemade cakes, fresh pastries and a wide sweet and savoury spread. If you have dietary needs, the kitchen handles gluten-free, lactose-free, vegan and vegetarian requests with ease.

The infinity pool is the star of the show after skiing. Heated and set into the hillside with views stretching across the valley, it is the kind of pool you see on Instagram and wonder if it actually looks that good in person. It does. Beyond that, the wellness area has a sauna, hammam, steam room and hot tub, plus a garden with sun loungers for afternoons when the weather plays ball. Other facilities include a bar, wine cellar, lounge, playground, ski storage with boot dryers, free parking and EV charging. The Stuflesser family and their team are consistently praised by guests for a warmth and personal attention that bigger hotels in the valley simply cannot match.
